I said yes to this work twice

portrait of Shayna — coming

A few years ago, I stepped away from photographing weddings full-time to be home with my two little girls. I thought that might be the end of it. I'd had a good run, I loved it, and I figured that season had closed.

Then God told me otherwise. Plainly. The way He does when He means it.

I'm having you do this, for the people you meet.

So I said yes again. And honestly, the calling feels clearer now than it ever did the first time around.

I haven't fully stopped these past few years. I've just taken on very few couples at a time, on purpose. Now I photograph weddings for couples I'm genuinely drawn to, here in Minneapolis, where we're rooted.

Here's the part that explains the rest of it. Matt and I serve in young adult ministry at our church, where we walk with engaged couples through dating, engagement, and marriage prep. My faith is the why behind this work. I care about your wedding day because I care about what it signifies: two people choosing to love each other every single day for the rest of their lives. There is nothing else quite like it. Whether or not you share that faith, every wedding I'm trusted with, I treat as a sacred honor.

I won't pretend I have it all figured out. I'm a real person. Some days are harder than others, and I've walked through hard things and come out more myself on the other side. I think that's part of why I shoot the way I do. I'm not interested in a polished, performed version of your day. I want the real one. The full one. The one you'll be glad you remembered.

So if you want someone who'll learn your names and actually mean it, who loves meeting every couple, hearing how you found each other, and holding onto your day in a way you'll have forever — here I am. I can't wait to meet you and get to know you.
